Porthill Park Cricket Club reformed in 1879 by a one William Beech. Porthill played on and around Wolstanton in their early years grounds mentioned on the Watlands Park Estate around the Park Avenue area. Another recorded ground was by Pitt Green Farm.
Porthill moved to present location in Wolstanton in 1898 playing their 1st games in 1900.
Porthill have engaged many Professional cricketers over the years,non more famous than the great Sidney Barnes in 1907. Barnes whilst playing for Porthill was selected for several England tours playing a major part in the defeat of the Australians and South Africans and led Porthill 6 championships over his 7 year reign.
In recent years the successful Junior section has produced several youngsters who have gone on to represent the county at their respective junior levels.
On visiting Porthill Cricket Club you will be assured a warm welcome to The Old County Ground. with plenty of seating around the ground, with the veranda and the refurbished Nathan Butler Memorial Stand, a well stocked bar with several real ales on sale and refreshments a plenty, many a pleasant day may be spent watching cricket at Porthill.
